Gutierrez Painting has added a 300-watt pulsed laser cleaning system to our equipment for paint and coating removal. This is a shop and jobsite tool for work where the surface under the paint needs to be protected, not just cleared.
Traditional prep still has its place. Scraping, sanding, and chemical stripping remain part of how we work. The laser gives us another option when those methods would be too harsh, too messy, or too likely to damage the material underneath.
Pulsed laser cleaning is a non-contact process. The beam is directed at the coating so the paint, residue, or buildup can be removed layer by layer. There is no blasting media, no heavy abrasion, and no chemical bath left sitting on the piece. That matters on stone, detailed metal, furniture, and anything that would lose its character if it were ground down or stripped too aggressively.
Stone and Masonry
Painted brick, stone, and concrete often need the coating gone without taking the face of the material with it. Laser removal is used for leftover paint, graffiti, and coatings that were never meant to stay. It is a better fit than grinding or blasting when the masonry itself is part of the finished look.
Built-up paint
Older homes and commercial buildings collect layer after layer of paint on metal, trim, doors, railings, and architectural details. Those surfaces are slow to prep and easy to damage. The laser lets us work through heavy buildup with more control than media blasting or prolonged sanding, especially where edges, profiles, and thin stock need to stay intact.
Furniture and Restoration
Furniture, cabinets, metal pieces, and salvage items often fail conventional stripping because the detail is the value. Laser cleaning can take off old finishes while leaving the wood or metal underneath in better condition for refinishing. It is not a shortcut around proper restoration work. It is a cleaner way to get the piece ready for the next finish.
What to expect
We look at the surface before recommending laser removal. Not every coating, substrate, or job is a good candidate. Some paints come off readily. Some need a different approach. If sanding or chemical stripping will produce a better result, that is what we will use.
The goal is the same as the rest of our work: get the surface ready the right way so the new finish lasts. Laser cleaning is one more method we can bring to that prep, particularly on projects that would be difficult or destructive with conventional tools alone.

What is laser paint removal?
It is a non-contact process that uses a pulsed laser to take paint and coatings off a surface. The beam is aimed at the coating so the paint can be removed without sandblasting, heavy grinding, or soaking the piece in chemical stripper.
Will it damage the material underneath?
That is the reason we added it. The goal is to remove the coating and leave the stone, metal, or wood intact. Results still depend on the surface, the type of paint, and how many layers are there. We look at the piece first and will not use the laser if another method is safer.
What surfaces can you use it on?
The work we are targeting is painted stone and masonry, metal with built-up paint, trim and architectural details, and furniture or restoration pieces. It is not a fit for every substrate. Some coatings and some materials respond better than others.
Is this a replacement for sanding or chemical stripping?
No. Scraping, sanding, and chemical stripping are still part of how we prep. Laser cleaning is another option when those methods would be too harsh, too messy, or likely to damage the surface.
How is it different from sandblasting?
Sandblasting uses media to knock the coating off. That can rough up or erode the material underneath and leaves a lot of waste to clean up. The laser does not use blasting media. It is slower on some large, simple surfaces and more useful where control matters.
Can you use it on wood furniture?
Yes, on the right pieces. It can take old finish off wood without flattening every detail the way aggressive sanding can. Soft woods, veneers, and heavily damaged pieces still need a careful look before we start.
Does it work on brick and stone?
That is one of the main uses. Painted brick, stone, and concrete can be cleaned without grinding the face of the masonry. Graffiti and leftover coatings are common reasons people ask about it.
Will it remove several layers of old paint?
Often, yes. Built-up paint is one of the jobs it handles well. Thick or stubborn coatings can take more time, and some layers still need a second method. We will tell you that up front if we see it.
Is it messy?
There is no blasting sand and no chemical bath. Removed coating still has to be contained and cleaned up, especially on a jobsite. It is generally cleaner than media blasting, not dust-free.
Can you do this inside a house?
Sometimes. It depends on the room, the surface, ventilation, and what else is in the space. Interior work is planned case by case. Exterior masonry, metal, and shop pieces are usually simpler.
What about lead paint?
Older homes and buildings can have lead-based paint. That changes how the work has to be handled. If lead is a concern, say so when you call. We will evaluate the job before any removal starts.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size of the area, the number of layers, and the material. A small furniture piece is a different job than a run of painted masonry. We can give a better time frame after seeing photos or walking the site.
Do you paint the surface after the laser work?
Yes, when that is part of the project. Laser cleaning is prep. If the job is a full refinish or repaint, we handle the coating removal and the new finish as one scope, or we can do the removal only if that is all you need.
How do I know if my project is a good fit?
Send photos and a short description of the surface and what you want removed. We will tell you whether the laser makes sense, whether a conventional method is better, or whether the two should be combined.
Do you serve only Fort Worth?
We serve Fort Worth and the surrounding area. If the job is farther out, ask when you contact us. Distance and access affect whether it is practical to bring the equipment.
